Which software package is right for me?

There are so many software packages to choose from out there. So how do you decide which one is right for you?

Well, that all depends how much information you want to get out of it.

If you want monthly detailed management accounts you should really opt for a software package like Sage, Xero or VT (there are others).

Many of my clients are miss-sold software packages, when they are overly complicated for them. If completing your books is simply something you do because your accountant makes you then Microsoft Excel or even a manual cash book are perfectly functional.

In fact, I have many clients that complete quarterly VAT returns using good old Microsoft Excel.

If you are willing to use a software package and have already done such things as: reconciling the bank, posting your closing stock figure, etc. then make sure that your accountancy fees are reduced accordingly.
