Changing your accountant

Want to make sure you hire the right accountant? Here are three easy steps to follow …

1, Make sure you are using a qualified accountant. A certified or chartered practicing accountant will have strict guidelines and will have to attend regular update courses. You can therefore be sure to receive sound advice and if you have any problems they will have a governing body for you to involve.

2, Use an accountant who deals with similar size businesses to yourself. That way you know that they will know all the tips and tricks of the trade for you. For example, if you’re a start-up business then an accountant with clients that only turnover £1m plus may not be right for you, and vice versa.

3, Make sure they care about your business. I think this is the most important of all. Your accountant should look to save you money and grow your business. Look for an accountant who gives you ideas, motivates you and that wants to help you succeed. Preparing your year-end accounts shouldn’t just be a compliance exercise.

I know what you’re thinking…. I don’t want the hassle of changing my accountant!

Trust me, it’s so easy to switch! Any firm registered with a governing body should write to your previous accountant for clearance and your previous accountant has to respond with all of the information the new accountant may need. All you will have to do is sit back while the changeover happens and look forward to working with your new agent.

That’s all for now guys & gals
